Collection of manuscripts, chiefly letters assembled by Edwin B. Janes. The Miscellaneous Manuscripts portion contains individual letters by American political, military, and literary figures of the late eighteenth and nineteenth century. Included are: a leaf from the docket of the court in Painesville, Ohio, detailing conviction of Joseph Smith, Jr., of assault and battery of his brother-in-law Calvin W. Stoddard (Apr. 21, 1835), documents relating to slavery and abolitionism, and other sundry items. Also included is a small group of correspondence of John Stuart Skinner. There is also a group of letters and military records related to the Civil War in Ohio. Professional and political correspondence of Albert Gallatin Riddle, chiefly letters addressed to him during from 1847 to 1870. Miscellaneous personal, professional, and political correspondence of Andrew J. Williams.

Edwin B. Janes was an autograph and manuscript collector of Cleveland, Ohio. Albert Gallatin Riddle (1816- 1902), lawyer, Republican legislator, and author.
